Is there anything better than getting together with friends and the season’s produce and creating dishes and drinks together??
I don’t think so!
Recently, we had my best friend and her partner over for dinner. I made chicken thighs with our family’s Super Secret Dry Rub, roasted asparagus with shaved Parmesan, No-Fail Cauli-tatoes, my Beet & Blood Orange Slaw, and for dessert, Keto Lemon Curd with my shortbread cookies and Nancy’s probiotic cream cheese. It was quite a feast!
And, there’s more…
Jeffrey, her partner, is the chef at a local high-end restaurant. As you can imagine, when Jeffrey and I get together, the topic of conversation is pretty singular — food!
I told Jeffrey my idea for a blackberry and sage cocktail and asked him to help me make it a reality. Since any excuse to play with food is acceptable, we made a giant mess in my kitchen and hand-crafted this berry-licious low-carb paleo blackberry and sage cocktail while listening to music and laughing.
It was perfect. 🙂

Stevia-Sweetened Black Betty (a.k.a. the BEST Low-Carb Paleo Blackberry & Sage Cocktail!)
Although we tested the Black Betty recipe with aquavit, rum, vodka, and whisky, the whisky ended up, not surprisingly, being my personal favorite. (Hey, I’m from the South; whisky is my language, ok?)
The Hubs had his with rum, which isn’t my fave. If you’re into rum, give it a shot; he loved it!
Also, no worries… There were 4 of us adults, so we put a different kind of liquor in each glass and took turns tasting out of the other glasses! 😉
I’m so happy with this lovely, deep purple cocktail — or “big girl drink” as I love to call special adult beverages like this. Give it a try this summer… it sure would be a waste of juicy summer berries not to!

How many carbs per drink?
How do you store the syrup, and for how long can it be stored? Can it be frozen?
We’ve never had syrup leftover to store! It should keep in the fridge for a few days. And yes, it can be frozen. Hope that helps!
