Low-Carb Strawberry Italian Sodas (+ sugar-free simple syrup!)
I love beautiful, fresh strawberries as much as anyone…
But I can’t always get them. 🙁
The berry season up here is short-lived. So when we have local, fresh berries, they don’t last long. (The Peeps have literally devoured a half gallon of locally picked strawberries in less than 24 hours.)
And when berries aren’t in season, I can’t bring myself to buy them. A strawberry in November is NOT a strawberry in July, ya know?
Sugar-Free Simple Syrup
In order to make Italian sodas, you have to start with a simple syrup, right? Except store-bought simple syrups are JUNK and homemade ones are full of sugar. (After all, a simple syrup is one part sugar to one part water.)
But… Dietz Sweet. Oh, how we love you!
This DIY sugar alternative blend substitutes for sugar cup for cup — so we can still enjoy our favorite sweet treats and drinks WITHOUT the empty carbs and blood sugar spikes from sugar! (Not sure about alternative sweeteners? Grab my FREE Guide To Alternative Sweeteners to learn more!)
Low-Carb Strawberry Italian Sodas start like any other Italian soda — but with sugar-free simple syrup!
Here’s what you need:
- 1 cup Dietz Sweet
- 1 cup boiling water — I love this ceramic electric tea kettle for fast boiling with no steam!
Makes slightly more than 1 cup.
Here’s how to do it:
Stir together the Dietz Sweet and boiling water until the sweetener is dissolved.
And now for the Italian sodas!
Low-Carb Strawberry Italian Sodas
Recently, I discovered freeze-dried strawberry powder.
While the simple syrup is still hot, stir in 2 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon of freeze-dried strawberry powder until dissolved. Strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove remaining debris.
Add ice to glasses. Next, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of sugar-free strawberry simple syrup to each glass.
Fill each glass with sparkling mineral water and stir. Garnish with a fresh berry (if you have them).
That’s it! Wasn’t that crazy easy?!
Depending on how much simple syrup you use, this recipe will serve 8 to 16 — with less than 2g carbs per serving!
