“Does it have weed in it?”
The first time I made this “Hippie juice”, I posted a photo of it on social media … and that’s the question I got from one of my facetious friends who apparently equates Hippies with cannabis. LOL
The answer is no, there’s nothing of questionable legality in this drink. I’m not one for seeing how many superfoods I can cram into one drink or smoothie. Ok, actually I am. Eating my words now.

Green Hippie Juice with MCT Oil — Detoxifying, Energizing, & Nourishing!
At certain times of year, especially spring, I find my body naturally drawn toward detoxifying foods and fresh greens — probably because spring is the season to detox the liver. Liver support is a crucial part of gut health — read more here!
Also, my body craves leafy greens after a cold winter subsisting on mostly frozen veggies since I almost live in the Arctic Circle.
I kid. Sort of.
Cravings mean the body is missing something or needs more of something. For example, when you crave chocolate, it may mean you need more magnesium. Or, cravings for oranges or peppers signal that your body might be running low on Vitamin C.
Our bodies are really amazing at letting us know what they need, if we’ll only listen. And this detoxifying, energizing, and nourishing “green” juice doesn’t disappoint.

Is it juice or a smoothie?
I’m calling it juice only because it has more of a thinner juice-like consistency than a smoothie.
It’s NOT juice in the sense that we pull out a juicer and squeeze a bunch of liquid out of fruits and vegetables.
Green Hippie Juice is blended with a little ice, so if you want more of a smoothie consistency, blend in more ice.
I prefer the thinner, juice-like consistency, with the Hippie Juice served over ice.
Here’s how to get the most out of your Hippie Juice:
- Don’t leave out the fat. This drink is FULL of fat-soluble vitamins, so you don’t want to miss out by not absorbing them. Fat is necessary for your body to assimilate these vitamins. I use this MCT oil.
- Seed-Cycling: To support my hormone balance and reproductive health, my naturopath has me seed-cycling. During the follicular phase of my cycle (onset of menstruation til ovulation), I consume 2 tablespoons per day of raw flax seeds or sprouted, raw pumpkin seeds. Then I switch to 2 tablespoons per day of raw sesame seeds or soaked/dehydrated raw sunflower seeds during the luteal phase of my cycle (ovulation through start of the next cycle).
- Avoiding caffeine? If you’re sensitive to the small amount of caffeine in green tea, you’re avoiding caffeine completely, or you want to enjoy this drink in the afternoon or evening, use 1 cup of cold water instead of brewed green tea.
- Steam your spinach. I recommend lightly steaming spinach rather than adding it to your juice or smoothies raw. Steamed spinach is lower in oxalates than raw, making it healthier for your kidneys and thyroid. I make these Spinach Smoothie Pucks because they’re pre-steamed and pre-portioned perfectly for my smoothies and this Hippie Juice!
Since I started having this drink every morning, my energy levels have skyrocketed! Although my ashwagandha tincture nearly cleared up my brain fog, my mind is even more clear and focused after I have my morning Hippie Juice. My body LOVES these greens and antioxidants!

Ingredients
- 1cupboiling water
- 2organic green tea bags
- 1cuporganic spinach or other mild greenssuch as green leaf or oak leaf lettuce
- 1scoop Perfect Supplements Aquatic Greens Powder
- 1teaspoonamla berry powder
- 1scoop Perfect Supplements Collagen Powder
- 1/4cuplemon juice1 large lemon
- 1-inchfresh ginger
- 1tablespoonMCT oil
- 1/4teaspoondried turmeric
- 1/8teaspooncayenne pepper
- 1/8teaspoonpowdered stevia extract
- a few cranks fresh black pepper
- 3-4pinchessalt
- 3cupsice1 for blending, 2 for serving
Optional add-ins:
- 1/2 to 1dropper CBD oil
- 1teaspoonmaca powder
- 1tablespoonchia seeds
- 1-2tablespoonsflax seedspumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, or sunflower seeds (for seed-cycling*)
- 1/4cupfreshorganic cilantro

Instructions
- First, steep the tea for 10 minutes. If you have time to allow it to cool, let it cool. If not, add a handful of ice to the hot tea after steeping to cool it quickly.
- Place the brewed tea, plus all ingredients in a high-powered blender in the order listed. Make sure to reserve 2 cups of ice!
- Blend on high until all the leaves have been processed. I use the Smoothie button on my BlendTec, and it works great!
- Place the remaining 2 cups of ice in a 32-ounce glass or Mason jar.
- Pour the Hippie Juice over the ice and enjoy!

Could you add the hot green tea to your spinach when blending and bypass the steaming of the spinach and just add more ice
If you use green tea bags or loose green tea, you can add the green tea leaves to the smoothie as well. Shame to throw them away when they contain all the nutrients and taste as well!
Great recipe… will try it soon. I do have a question re: the seed cycling. Since I am grain free and intolerant of almonds, I eat walnuts, flaw, sunflower, and sesame almost daily. How would I seed cycle? Am I completely messing myself up hormonally?

Too funny about the “cannabis” green juice 🙂 I love making blended green juice for an energy boost, although my go-to recipe is pretty simple-greens, fresh ginger, 1/4 apple w/ skin for a hint of sweetness, fresh lemon juice, and water. Love your power packed version!
