The holidays are full of beautiful drinks and cocktails and mocktails!
It’s such a fun time of year to experiment with different colors and flavors and concoct your own combinations that will likely be favorites for years to come!
If you prefer a fancy holiday drink sans alcohol and sugar, this Keto Cranberry Lemon Spritzer is IT!
Keto Cranberry Lemon Spritzer
Both cranberries and lemons are loaded with vitamins, antioxidants, and cleansing properties.
They’re wonderful for stimulating digestive juices, so this spritzer makes the perfect pre-dinner drink! Especially if a heavy holiday meal is in your future…
Plus, both cranberries and lemons are naturally low in fructose, so they are blood sugar-friendly and low-carb on their own.
However… cranberries are extremely tart and lemons are extremely sour. So, unless you really want a drink that makes you pucker, you’re going to want to add some sweetener. 😉
For this Keto Cranberry-Lemon Spritzer, you’ve got two sweetener options: a low-carb, keto-friendly sweetener like Dietz Sweet — my personal blend — or plain stevia.
Real Food Cranberry Lemon Spritzer — not keto option
Prefer not to dabble in the world of low-carb sweeteners?
Obviously, raw honey isn’t keto-friendly, but if you prefer to avoid alternative sweeteners, it’s a great option. (When/why might you avoid alternative sweeteners? Find out in my FREE Guide To Alternative Sweeteners!)
Add it before adding ice so it dissolves completely.
I wouldn’t recommend maple syrup or coconut sugar, however. You could try it, but personally, I feel that the flavors would compete too much with the cranberry and lemon. 🙂
With so few, but super healthy and tasty ingredients — fresh cranberries, sweetener, water, lemon juice, and sparkling water — you can craft a lovely spritzer (some might say this is a mocktail) in just a few minutes.
This festive drink is sure to make any holiday party extra special for adults and kids alike!
Feeling a little naughty? It’s perfectly acceptable to add a splash of vodka for adults over 21! 😉
Let’s make this keto (or not) Cranberry Lemon Spritzer!
Real Food Cranberry-Lemon Spritzer {paleo, low-carb option}
If you prefer a fancy holiday drink sans alcohol and sugar, this Keto Cranberry-Lemon Spritzer is IT! This paleo, Real Food drink has a honey option as well. Feeling naughty? Make this keto mocktail and cocktail!
Ingredients
- 1/2cupfreshorganic cranberries
- 1/2cuplow-carb sweetenersuch as Dietz Sweet (or an equal amount of raw honey)
- 1/4cupwater
- 1/2cuplemon juicebottled or fresh
- sparkling mineral water
Instructions
- To a small saucepan, add the cranberries, sweetener of choice, and water.
- Turn the heat to high and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to a gentle simmer, and use a potato masher to mash the cranberries.
- Cover and simmer 10 minutes.
- Remove from the heat.
- Place a fine mesh sieve over a glass bowl or Pyrex measuring cup.
- Pour the cranberries into the sieve, then use the back of a spoon to press the liquid through the sieve, catching it in the bowl or measuring cup.
- Discard remaining cranberry solids. You may notice that the cranberry has begun to "gel"as it cools. This is normal and due to the natural pectin in the cranberries.
- Add the lemon juice to the cranberry mixture and stir to combine.
- Place 2 tablespoons of the cranberry-lemon concentrate in the bottom of pretty low-ball glasses.
- Add ice.
- Pour sparkling water over the ice.
- Garnish with lemon and/or fresh cranberries.
- Enjoy!
