In 1960, during the U.S. Open at the Cherry Hill Country Club in Denver, the world-famous golf pro Arnold Palmer ordered a combination of lemonade and ice tea.
Supposedly, Mr. Palmer drank this all the time in his own home.
The waitress referred to it as “the Palmer drink”.
This simple combination of sweet lemonade and unsweetened tea is a truly classic, non-alcoholic beverage — christened the Arnold Palmer.
If you’re a Southerner like me — and can’t decide whether you’d rather have iced lemonade or sweet tea — the Arnold Palmer is the best of both worlds!
Unfortunately, a traditional Arnold Palmer is full of sugar. My version, of course, is not — because it’s sweetened with stevia!
It is, however, just as refreshing, not too sweet, and PERFECT for hot summer days, picnics, barbecues, and golfing (obviously)!
Do I have to use stevia?
Noooope!
If you’re not worried about staying low-carb/keto, raw honey is your best sweetener choice.
If you still want to stay low-carb/keto, but can’t use stevia due to preference, intolerance, or ragweed allergy, you can use another keto-friendly sweetener.
Unfortunately, my own blend — Dietz Sweet — is out because it does contain stevia.
Lakanto is a keto/low-carb sweetener made from erythritol and monkfruit — no stevia! It’s best to dissolve this sweetener in the just-boiled water, as it will stay granulated if you only mix it into your Arnold Palmer after it’s made.
How To Make a Low-Carb/Keto Arnold Palmer Iced Tea (for one or for a crowd!)
Basically, you need equal parts black tea and lemonade.
Low-Carb/Keto Arnold Palmer Iced Tea for 1:
- Steep 1 black tea bag in 1/2 cup of just-boiled water. I love my ceramic electric tea kettle for quick water-boiling!
- While the tea steeps, combine 2 to 3 tablespoons lemon juice with 1/2 cup water
- Add a “doonk” (1/32 teaspoon) powdered stevia extract or liquid stevia to taste. See notes above about stevia alternatives.
- If you feel like your drink is too strong, add fresh water to taste
Low-Carb/Keto Arnold Palmer Iced Tea for a crowd:
- Boil 4 cups water and steep 4 or 5 black tea bags in it. If you like a stronger tea flavor, use 5 tea bags.
- While the tea steeps, combine 1 cup lemon juice with 6 cups cold water.
- Add 3 additional cups cold water to the steeped tea.
- Combine the tea with the lemonade.
- Add 1/4 teaspoon powdered stevia extract or liquid stevia to taste. See notes above if you cannot use stevia.
Here’s the recipe for a crowd!

Questions: What size is a serving if there’s 14 cups, but the recipe says 4 servings? Also, the tea seems a bit weak – I would think one would need 7 tea bags for an eventual 7 cups of water. I’m not sure what I think about the ratios for the lemonade, because I never measure when I make it (always by the glass, and I don’t have it often). Also, you say to keep them separate if it’s not for a gathering, but you don’t specify if the sweetener should be split between both or if it should be… Read more »
Literally the easiest thing to do is dissolve the sweetener in the hot water that you’re brewing the tea in, then add the lemon juice. The serving size thing may be an error. We recently changed recipe cards and some things didn’t transfer correctly. I hope you love it!
This looks great for summer, I being looking for refreshing drinks for my kids, they love tea and lemonade but don’t like the taste of stevia, can I substitute with honey?
Sure! Feel free to sub w/ honey to taste (keep in mind that this will no longer be keto/THM-friendly). 😉
I love Arnold Palmer’s! I grew up in the south and they’re a must on a hot summer day. I love this low carb version that fits into my keto diet!
I’m a Southern girl, too — born and raised in Texas!
I must admit I have never tried an Arnold Palmer before, but it looks very refreshing, perfect for a hot day. I love that you have used stevia instead of sugar.
Sounds delicious and very refreshing!
I always appreciate a non alcoholic choice! Thanks:)
This drink looks so refreshing. I love that it is sweetened with stevia instead of regular sugar.
I love that you used stevia in these beautiful drinks! I need to get my hands on some of that stevia powder, I haven’t used it before. I bet this drink is so refreshing!
