When it comes time to cook meat, the first thing we reach for is THIS SPICE MIX.
I gotta give all credit for this awesome spice mix recipe to my husband, David.
It’s got flavah! Like, a lot of flavor.
Some smokiness, some herby-ness, some saltiness, a tiny bit of a spicy kick — it’s genuinely the perfect spice mix because you can use it to season anything.
Which is why we’ve named it Season Anything Spice Mix. (Because Everything Seasoning is already taken. LOL) 😉
How Season Anything Spice Mix Was Born
Whether we were cooking chicken or pork chops, burgers or fries, fish or roasted veggies, my husband was reaching for the same spices from the pantry over and over again:
- paprika
- onion granules
- chili powder
- garlic granules
- turmeric powder
- black pepper
- oregano
- salt
Then one day, he had a light bulb moment.
“If I just make a big batch of this, we can keep it on the spice shelf and grab it whenever we’re cooking. Then I don’t have to drag out all these little spice jars. I’ll just make it in a big jar!”
Pretty genius, huh? 😉
Literally, Season Anything…
I’m not lying when I say we use this on all the things.
Pan-fried pork chops? Check
Grilled chicken? Yup.
Mixed into burgers? Yes, ma’am.
Baked or grilled fish? Check again.
Veggies? Yepper!
I’m pretty positive my family’s #1 favorite way to use our Season Anything Spice Mix is on bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs, baked until that skin is crispy.
Holy lord. This spice mix + that crispy skin = heaven in your mouth. 😛
It truly is our go-to seasoning for anything and everything savory.
Best Place To Buy Spices + How Much?
You can literally walk into any supermarket and purchase the spices that go into this mix. However, our personal preference is to buy bulk-size spices — not only for this mix but for all our spice needs in general.
But, here’s the catch — if you’re buying those one- or two- ounce jars and you want to make this Anything Seasoning Spice Mix to divvy up as gifts or because you love it so much you want to have a giant jar on hand at all times (raises hand here) — you’re going to spend a lot.
This is why we prefer to buy all our spices in bulk — like one pound at a time.
If you already have the jar labeled “paprika” or “pepper” or “chili powder”, simply keep your extra stash in your pantry, basement, or wherever is convenient and refill it when it runs out.
This system works really well for us and saves us a lot of money, too!
Thankfully, we have an extra pantry in our basement which is basically exploding with one-pound bags of our herbs and spices. When the small jar in the kitchen gets low, we make a trip to the basement — rather than a trip to the grocery store.
So, we buy most of our bulk spices from Azure Standard and Amazon.
If you’re familiar with the Frontier brand of organic herbs and spices, and don’t have a way to order wholesale in your area, you can buy Frontier bulk herbs and spices on Amazon!
And, all this depends on your living situation, obvs. If you’re in a tiny house, RV, or apartment with no storage space, you might be stuck with the tiny, expensive spice jars.
But hey, we all have our trade-offs. 🙂
Can you really season anything?
I mean, I wouldn’t recommend it for dessert or oatmeal… 😉
But for anything and everything savory… YES!
For chicken or fish: Sprinkle generously over the chicken or fish on both sides, then bake or grill until done.
For pan-frying pork chops: Sprinkle over one side of the pork chop. Heat your favorite nourishing fat in a cast iron skillet and place the seasoned side down. Then sprinkle the spice mix on the other side. Flip after 5-7 minutes and cook an additional 5-7 minutes. Perfection!
For burgers: Mix Season Anything Spice Mix into the ground meat before you form patties — about 2 tablespoons per pound of meat. Then grill!
For roasting veggies: Lay cut veggies on a baking sheet lined with parchment and drizzle with extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil. Sprinkle seasoning mix over the veggies and roast until done.
For plain hummus: Spice up your plain hummus by stirring in a bit of Season Anything mix!
For a dairy-licious dip: Add this seasoning blend to sour cream or cream cheese for a flavorful, homemade dip with no additives or MSG.
How To Make Season Anything Spice Mix
Well, it’s pretty hard…
LOL. Kidding.
Y’all know I don’t do complicated — so of course, I’m not going to give you a complicated spice mix recipe with ingredients that are difficult to find.
So, you can go into any supermarket and find these ingredients or order them online in bulk or procure the ingredients in whatever way blows your skirt up.
The point is: you’re going to want to make Season Anything Spice Mix!
We are giving measurements for making and storing it in a quart-size Mason jar. Feel free to adjust these amounts to be less or more for your needs.
Simply grab all your spices and some measuring utensils.
Measure the amounts of each herb/spice and pour it into your storage jar.
It makes really pretty layers as you add each spice.
When you’ve got it all in there, put a lid on your jar and shake, shake, shake! That’s it!
Oh, and save this recipe for later. This spice mix in cute jars tied with twine makes a PERFECT gift for cooks, grill-masters, or people who just like really flavorful food. 🙂

I can’t wait to try this spice mix on some venison cutlets in my smoker. I still have some organic paprika. Never tried turmeric on venison. I’ll let David know how good he did. LOL
Sounds awesome, Dad! Let me know how it goes!
Let me know! I put this on everything. It’s pretty universal!
Do you use Oregano leaves or ground Oregano?
We use leaves. 🙂
I make similar customer blends and look forward to trying yours. I have a tip for small families as I usually am cooking for just one or two people. I do take advantage of buying my spices in bulk but in order to preserve their flavor since it takes a long time for me to use up, I store all of them in my freezer (whole or ground), including my custom blends. Frontier packaging is especially freezer friendly but jars work as well. Then, I take out what I need in small easy to use up portions, let it come… Read more »
Yes, that’s a great tip! Thank you for sharing!
This is so “me” ~ I have jars of every size.. in my pantry. I love to make mixtures like this one! In fact, I have one I’ve been using all winter, with almost same but with onion flakes and thyme added (minus the onion granules!) The best part — in addition to money + time saving? I teach my clients to customize to their own family’s tastes — and there are lots of these mixes in my ‘hood now! I try to encourage organice turmeric and some form of garlic in them all….
Great work David!! Smart move.
All the spices I love in a blend! Like you said, I would put this on everything.
What a great spice! Going to try it with my chicken thighs!
It’s our favorite dish ever! Make sure that skin gets crispy!
