Oral Health Essential Oil Blend {fight bad breath, cavities, & gum disease!}
Tooth pain, caries, cavities, receeding gums, sensitivity, and periodontal disease are caused by infection in the mouth. Kill that infection with natural, holistic, antibacterial essential oils! Just 1 drop of this Oral Health Essential Oil Blend on your toothbrush every time you brush!
Tired of walking out of the dentist’s office with less money in your pockets, more fillings, and no answers about how to naturally and holistically care for your teeth and gums?
Me too… sigh.
In June of 2011, I left my dentist’s office with a numb mouth and $1,200 less in my wallet…
Because I went in with 4 cavities. 🙁
Once I learned that brushing, flossing, and bi-annual cleanings and x-rays weren’t actually the best ways to care for my teeth, I educated myself and took my oral health into my own hands.
I learned so much from reading Rami Nagel’s Cure Tooth Decay and Dr. Weston Price’s Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. (I believe both books should be required reading for every medical doctor and dentist!)
Namely, cavities are NOT caused from bacteria or sugar, and they’re not prevented with brushing and flossing alone.
Tooth pain, caries, cavities, receeding gums, sensitivity, and periodontal disease are caused by infection in the mouth.
Oral health is strengthened in 2 ways: diet and infection-killing tooth products.
Once I had the diet aspect down (lots of grass-fed, raw dairy, pastured meats, low-phytate foods, fermented cod liver oil/butter oil blend), I moved on to our tooth products.
I threw out our bright blue, fluoridated toothpaste and began learning about not only restoring minerals to our teeth topically, but fighting the infections in my mouth that caused pain when chewing and bleeding gums while brushing.
IMPORTANT: Use high quality essential oils for this blend to achieve the best results. If the price of an oil seems to good to be true, it probably is — and the oil may contain carcinogens such as synthetic fragrances and phthalates. I only use Spark Naturals essential oils. Oral Health Essential Oil Blend
Fighting infections in the mouth comes down to using anti-bacterial substances on the teeth, while continuing to eat a nutrient-dense diet to strengthen the teeth from within. (Scroll down for the foods and supplements that have been proven to heal cavities and remineralize teeth.)
And you can’t get any more anti-bacterial than essential oils!
Using essential oils to kill the bacteria and infections that cause bad breath, periodontal disease, and cavities has been very effective (and inexpensive!).
My gums almost never bleed while brushing, I don’t have bad breath, and I’ve had several caries in my teeth go away! Furthermore, my teeth are way less sensitive than they used to be.
This Oral Health Essential Oil Blend is based on a store-bought blend that includes seabuckthorn oil and rose oil. (I don’t keep rose oil around because it’s very rare and expensive.)
However, the essential oils in this homemade blend will still fight mouth infections and remedy gum disease, bad breath, and cavities (along with a nutrient-dense diet, of course!).
Here’s what you need:
- 15 drops clove essential oil
- 10 drops frankincense essential oil
- 10 drops peppermint essential oil
- 7 drops oregano essential oil
- 5 drops thyme essential oil
- 5 drops spearmint essential oil
- 5 drops cinnamon bark essential oil
- 5 drops tea tree (melaleuca) essential oil
- fractionated coconut oil or seabuckthorn oil
Here’s how to do it:
First, add each oil to a 5mL cobalt glass oil bottle (buy empty oil containers here).
Fill with fractionated coconut oil or seabuckthorn oil to the base of the neck of the bottle. Replace the dropper, cap the bottle, and shake well.
Use 1 drop on your toothbrush every time you brush.
Alternatively, place a drop of Oral Health Essential Oil Blend on your finger and rub it directly on painful teeth or gums between brushings to treat an infection or painful spot.

Do you sell this blend or know any companies that sell it online?
I don’t sell it and don’t know if there’s a company that makes something similar.
OraWellness sells a Healthy Mouth oil blend that has a bunch (though not all) of these essential oils. Works too! If its too $ I think you’re better off making your own. You can use the essential oils on a bunch of other things.
I like the idea of changing my diet for oral health, so I will also look into that in addition to the essential oils. Thanks
Would be cheaper to go to the dentist than to buy all those essential oils
All of those essential oils cost me less than having 4 cavities filled! It doesn’t cost $1200 to buy essential oils. And, you will have leftovers in the bottles to use for other things or to make more of this blend. If you don’t have an actual question, please don’t post. Thanks!
In between brushing how often can you rub this on gums and teeth? Also if there would be infection how long does this take to heal the infection
If you brush twice a day and put a drop on your toothbrush every time you brush, you shouldn’t need to rub it on the gums between brushing. I think that would be overkill. Remember, these are potent essential oils. And there is no possible way I could give a timeline for healing infections. Every body is different and heals at a different pace. You can certainly speed up your healing by avoiding sugar and inflammatory foods, getting plenty of sleep, getting sunshine and fresh air, and living a low-stress lifestyle.
I have receding gums and have been told that it is because of the way I brush my teeth….this really frustrates me as I have felt guilty (and helpless) that no matter what I did to change things it kept happening and they kept shaming me when I went in for check ups.
Will this just stop the receding or does it help to grow back?
Do you brush with a downward motion on top and an upward motion on bottom? That can really help to pull the gums back down. This blend will reduce inflammation that causes receeding as well.
I tried this blend and for me it’s way too strong. The cinnamon is not a good idea: it’s dermocaustic, agressive to the oral mucosa. Maybe it’s good to use for accute pain, for a short moment, but maybe not long term, every day
Thank you for sharing your experience. This blend is based off of another, much more expensive blend, that also contains cinnamon bark oil, which has worked well for many people.
Hi thank you for your post. I just wanted to ask if you think this is safe for kids to use daily? I have a 6 a 4 year old.
Peppermint oil is not safe to use on kids under age 6. Please consult a qualified aromatherapist or aromatherapy book to determine the safety of the other oils, as I am not sure at what ages they are safe or not.
Hi do you just use the oil drops or do you use toothpaste as well
We use a drop of the oil blend with toothpaste. We use Redmond’s Earth Paste.
Can I use MCT oil instead of fractionated coconut oil?
Yep! They’re the same thing. 🙂
Is a 5ml dropper bottle right for the oral care recipe. Where can I find one that small with a dropper?
Yep! You can purchase empty bottles here: https://sh2362.ositracker.com/111812/8626/url_9604 Hope that helps!
Hi, I’m excited to try this and finally have all the oils you suggested. One question…I’ve read Tea Tree shouldn’t be ingested. Is it necessary to include?
The tea tree is necessary, and you’re not technically ingesting it. You won’t be swallowing the oil mix, just as you don’t swallow your toothpaste. It absorbs into your bloodstream through your gums and tongue, same as it absorbs into your skin when used topically. 🙂
Hi, I started using this blend 2 drop on toothbrush as recommended 2x daily. Within 2 days my lips & skin where contact was made while brushing is sore, cracking & dry, it seems to be a lot of ‘hot’ oils with very small amount of coconut oil. Is it definitely only a 5ml bottle. 64 drops of oils only leaves room for 21 drops of coconut oil. Would love your advice on this please.
Are you using the oil by itself? I use it with my toothpaste (Earthpaste) so it dilutes it even further. The hot oils are the oils that are killing the bacteria that cause gum disease and cavities, so they are necessary. If you need to, put it in a 15mL bottle and dilute even further. Hope that helps!
Hi, I just wanted to say after being told I had gum disease and suffered with red inflamed gums that nothing seemed to treat, despite always religiously flossing and brushing with electric toothbrush as recommended by hygienist, I tried tea tree oil toithpaste a week ago. My gums instantly started healing and feelinv better and less tender. They are now light pink and inflammation has gone. I am amazed, I had been terrified of losing my teeth as I couldnt stop the gums receding until now. So essential oils are truly amazing znd powerful things. I will use them much… Read more »
Hi I just read your post and I’m suffering with the same thing that you was , so could you please please tell me everything you used to help your problem
It’s all linked in the post, Nadie. This essential oil mouth blend is awesome. Also, totally recommend getting the book Cure Tooth Decay (linked in the post) to educate yourself on holistic mouth care. 🙂
I have all the oils except cinnamon, can I still make this blend without cinnamon and still get all the benefits?
The cinnamon is ideal, but yes, you can still make it without. 🙂
I jus found out I periodontal disease. I am so sad about this. Please help.
Alice, I am not a dentist, therefore I cannot help you. I recommend finding a holistic dentist. And you could certainly start with this essential oil blend when you brush twice a day. Hope you find some answers!
Hi Alice, I was told I had gum disease and I have found that what works is: Relaxation and stress reduction and try to get as much sleep as possible. Tea tree oil toothpaste with Oral B electric toothbrush with soft head. Minimising sugar and all processed food. Cleaning of tongue with stainless steel tongue cleaner, Philips airflosser is fantastic and only takes 30 seconds to go round mouth. Plus I floss gently every night to clean more thoroughly the contact points between teeth. Vitamin C fruit and loads of fresh veg every evening. I have also always eaten a… Read more »
Hello, I am so excited to have read this article. I have just become a doTERRA Wellness Advocate and I’m so excited that I already have all these oil except Seabuckthorn oil which I will have to order. How many drops of the Rose oil and Seabuckthorn oil would you need to add to this? If you can email me directly at your.oil.lady@hotmail.com it would be greatly appreciated! Have a Great Day!
Thank You.
Since I haven’t used the seabuckthorn or rose oil in this mix, I don’t know how many drops. I would start with a small amount.
Do you use this with or without conventional toothpaste?
We don’t use “conventional” toothpaste if you’re referring to Crest, Colgate, etc. We use this blend with a Earth Paste.
