“I know it’s green, but what else is about it?” says the kid whose mother hands him some sort of green juice in one of our family’s favorite YouTube videos ever: Kid History, episode 6.
You can tell he’s obviously not super thrilled with his mother’s healthy cooking, especially anything green.
Yet, this bright green hot cocoa proves that, with a little ingenuity and creativity, you can make just about anything green and tasty!
I’ve transformed enough green foods in their lives that they trust me when I had them something green.
Case in point: neither of my kids will touch an avocado with a 10-foot pole, but they’ll eat their body weight in my No-Jello Chocolate Pudding Cups (made from avocados).
Or, if I hand them crispy kale and call it “chips”, they’ll be the first to eat the entire batch!
I am very, very sneaky, Momma. And damn proud of it!
Let me show you my ways… 🙂
If you’re a momma who’s trying to get more green anything into your kids, listen up. This recipe for Matcha-Moringa White Hot Cocoa is green and kid-friendly!
Trust me… my kids were nearly salivating into the mug while they waited for me to wrap up shooting the photos of this recipe!
If all else fails, just tell your kids this is the Grinch’s hot cocoa recipe. Hey, whatever works. No judgment here.
But before we make it, I should probably answer your #1 question…
What in the world is Matchinga??
Our friends at Perfect Supplements — my favorite whole foods supplement company — have combined antioxidant-rich, organic Japanese matcha with moringa, one of the most nutrient-dense plants on Earth, to create their trademarked Matchinga powder!
Sounds like a fun dance, doesn’t it? Cha, cha!
This energy-boosting green powder is loaded with antioxidants, iron, calcium, minerals, and all essential amino acids.
Perfect Matchinga has…
- 9 times more calcium than milk
- 7 times more protein than yogurt
- 6 times more iron than spinach
- 48 times more Vitamin B2 than kale
- 17 times more antioxidants than blueberries
- 4 times more potassium than bananas
- 2 times more Vitamin C than oranges
- 3 times more Vitamin A than carrots
- 10 times more nutritional potency than green tea
Matchinga contains 28 grams of naturally occurring caffeine per serving. (For reference, a cup of coffee contains about 100 grams of caffeine.)
Both the matcha and moringa in Matchinga are…
- certified organic and non-GMO
- come from family farms
- are paleo-friendly
- are soy-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan

How does Perfect Matchinga taste?
It’s definitely… green. 😉
Earthy and grassy. In a good way.
You can totally taste the matcha, so if you love matcha tea and lattes, you’ll enjoy the flavor.
Add Matchinga to smoothies if you need to “hide” it. Or, simply mix with a glass of water and chug-a-lug.
You can also bake with it — hello, natural green food coloring!
The cacao butter and sweetener in this Matchinga White Hot Cocoa definitely lift the earthy flavor up, and the Matchinga compliments white chocolate so much.
Just 7 Simple Ingredients In Matchinga White Hot Cocoa!
Y’all, I just love recipes with as few ingredients as possible. I believe the fewer ingredients we use, the more whole our foods are, the more affordable Real Food can be, and most of all, the more beautiful our food is!
So in this Matchinga White Hot Chocolate, there are just 6 ingredients:
Full fat coconut milk — which I purchase from Thrive Market because theirs doesn’t contain guar or xanthan gums, is organic, and is the best price! If you can’t have coconut milk, I recommend macadamia nut milk as the best substitute — which I also get from Thrive Market. 😉
Fair Trade cacao butter — a luscious, creamy fat that is beige in color and smells and tastes of the richest chocolate!
Perfect Matchinga — cha, cha, cha! This antioxidant-rich superfood powder boosts energy levels, metabolism, and mental clarity, decreases inflammation, and aids in detoxing chemicals and heavy metals from the body.
Sweetener of choice — I used my DIY keto sweetener Dietz Sweet, but you could also use Lakanto or your favorite low-carb/keto sweetener of choice. Unsure about alternative sweeteners? Get your questions answered in our Free Guide To Alternative Sweeteners!
For a non-keto, real food Matchinga White Hot Cocoa, substitute raw honey to taste.
Perfect Collagen — 1 scoop adds 10 grams of gut-healing, joint-supporting protein.
Organic vanilla extract + salt — and that’s it!
Coconut milk and cacao butter are full of nourishing fats — perfect for those of you following a keto or low-carb or Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle.
How simple and beautiful is this Matcha-Moringa White Hot Cocoa?!
How To Make This Quick Matcha-Moringa White Hot Cocoa
This is gonna take you less than 10 minutes from start to finish, so have your mugs ready, your movie queued, and your cozy spot ready to go!
Add one can of full-fat coconut milk to a small saucepan and bring to a simmer. I get canned coconut milk for the best price and quality from Thrive Market — no guar gum or xanthan gum!
While you wait for the coconut milk to come to a simmer, weigh out two ounces of cacao butter. I get Fair Trade-certified raw cacao butter from Wildly Organic.
It’s not cheap, but the quality is second to none — it’s perfectly rich and chocolate-y and adds such creaminess and nourishing fats to this paleo and keto Matcha-Moringa White Hot Cocoa!
Plus, purchasing ethical, fairly traded chocolate products is a priority for our family, and we don’t make white chocolate treats super often. (Here are my 7 Tips For Affording Ethical Food.)
Once your coconut milk is simmering, remove it from the heat.
Whisk in the cacao butter, Matchinga, sweetener, collagen vanilla, and salt. (See the next section about using a matcha whisk vs. a normal whisk.)
Matcha Whisk vs. Regular Whisk?
The matcha purists insist on using a special bamboo matcha whisk for their matcha drinks.
I don’t have a matcha whisk…
I also don’t like buying special kitchen tools and equipment that only serve one purpose. A minimalist by nature, I loathe clutter — and a tool that can only be used for one purpose is, in my opinion, a thing that’s just going to clutter up my drawers.
So, I used a regular, ol’ whisk… and guess what??
It worked!
I’m giving myself a free pass on this one. Hey, Matchinga isn’t 100% pure matcha powder, so I’m saying the moringa addition negates using a matcha-only whisk! LOL
If you have a matcha whisk or are inclined to own one, by all means, matcha whisk away! 😛
Ok, let’s make the greenest hot cocoa you’ve ever seen!

Great recipe, I will for sure be trying this. Is this ok for a 2 year old or do you have a reccomended age? Thanks a bunch!
No reason why a 2yo can’t have this! It’s full of healthy fats and antioxidants! Enjoy!
What about the caffeine?
What about it? There is less caffeine in this than in a cup of coffee or can of soda.
Oh my goodness, that’s gorgeous. I just ran out of my matcha powder, but I am DEFINITELY trying this as soon as I restock!
You will totally love it, Raia! I know you love your hot drinks!
Lindsey, these are some of my favorite of your photos ever. They are SOOOO pretty!! That green and the pouring, beautiful. AND I just “wasted” 5 wonderful, healthy minutes laughing at that Healthy Food video!! SO thanks for sharing that! Can’t wait to show my family tonight. LOL. Love this recipe!!
Megan, this is one of the greatest compliments EVER! Thank you so much, friend. <3 And isn't that video GREAT? We've been watching Kid History on YouTube since our kids were really little. That one remains my favorite!
I don’t know what I would do without my Moringa trees! I add Moringa to all kinds of things. This recipe looks amazing as I am a fan of matcha and basically everything else you have in here. Cannot wait to make this!
Whoa, wait! You have moringa trees? Like, actually in your yard? That is incredible!
I do! I have two in the ground and two in pots waiting to get a little bigger for transplanting. They grow like weeds here in Arizona!
Wow! I had no idea! I always thought moringa was one of those exotic plants that only grows in remote regions of tropical rain forests! LOL Shows how much I know!
OMG!! I am LOVING my matchinga powder, the stuff is seriously good…and i love the energy I feel after drinking it without feeling edgy or ‘high’ like coffee!
I have created my own version of a latte to enjoy it, so I was SO exited to see an different way to take part…and let me tell you, this drink did NOT disappoint! So creamy, chocolatey and delicious! LOVE it Lindsey, will be going into the afternoon pick me up mix!
That’s awesome! I’d love to see your matchinga latte recipe!
So cool that PS has this new supplement! But oh my goodness what a special way to use it. The color is just stunning in this yummy warming drink.
You blew my mind with this color! Yum!
Isn’t it so fun?!
