In 2001, when my now husband and I met and began dating, one of our favorite dives was a chain restaurant called Mr. Burger.
By the time we were old enough to date, Mr. Burger’s buildings, signs, and drive-thru menus were old, crumbly, and dated.
But like any good hole-in-the-wall joint, you didn’t go for the fancy atmosphere; you went for the food.
Oddly enough, Mr. Burger’s burgers weren’t all that great, however, we didn’t go for the burgers.
We went for the curly fries and cherry limeades!!
(I’ve already recreated those seasoned curly fries — but with butternut squash! I had yet to recreate the cherry limeade… until now!)
Making Cherry Limes Healthier (and without refined sugar!)
Mr. Burger’s cherry limes were nothing more than Sprite, some squirts of bright red grenadine, and extra lime juice. Oh boy, were they refreshing though!
Nothing could quench your thirst on a hot Texas day quite like a cherry limeade!

Let’s talk about that amazing color, shall we?
In Mr. Burger’s cherry limes, the red color came from Red Dye #40.
This bright pop of red comes from nothing more than those gorgeous, deep red cherries.
I love Real Food so much for this reason — no food dye is required, and you still get beautiful pops of color. The more colorful our food, the more nourishing it is!
Just 4 Healthy Ingredients for this Low-Carb, Dairy-Free, & Vegan Slushie
The ingredients in my low-carb cherry lime slushie have a couple of similarities, but WAY healthier — like bubbly sparkling water instead of Sprite, stevia instead of high fructose corn syrup and sugar, fresh lime juice, and frozen dark sweet cherries.
This healthy and low-carb Cherry Lime Slushie recipe has just 4 ingredients:
- sparkling mineral water
- fresh, whole limes — that’s right, the WHOLE inside of the lime, not just the juice!
- frozen dark cherries
- stevia — more below
- and ice… but everyone has ice, so I don’t count that! 😉
Frozen dark cherries are relatively inexpensive and can be found year-round — just in case you decide you need a slushie in December. 😉
Also, dark cherries are relatively low in carbs — with 19 grams of net carbs per cup. Since this recipe makes 4 servings, you’re at less than 10 net carbs per serving.
So, not exactly keto (unless you plan the rest of your day just right), but definitely lower in carbs than many other fruits.
Dark cherries are high in cancer-fighting anti-oxidants, reduce inflammation, and even contain high levels of melatonin. Yay for a better night’s sleep with such a yummy drink!
Because there’s no dairy, this stevia-sweetened recipe is also dairy-free and vegan!
About that stevia…
Stevia is such an easy way to add a bit of extra sweetness without adding extra carbs, fructose, or sugars.
Stevia extract also comes in two forms: powder and liquid.
The type of stevia you use is entirely up to you. For this recipe, I used powdered stevia extract (1/16 teaspoon).
If you have liquid on hand, feel free to use that. Start with a few drops and work your way up until you reach your desired level of sweetness.
This is the brand of liquid stevia I love and use.
If you prefer to avoid stevia, you can try some raw honey to taste or even blending in a few pitted dates. Keep in mind, however, that this will increase the carb and sugar content of your Cherry Lime Slushie considerably.
How to Make 4-Ingredient Low-Carb Cherry Lime Slushies
I made this recipe super, duper simple. So simple, you can probably remember the recipe after you make it just once! It’s TWO of everything:
- 2 cups of sparkling mineral water
- 2 whole limes, peeled
- 2 cups of frozen dark cherries
- 2 cups of ice
- 2 doonks (1/16 tsp) stevia
Combine everything in your blender in the order listed. I LOVE my high-speed BlendTec and will always say that it produces the best and smoothest slushies and smoothies!
Blend everything together until smooth and serve.
It always helps brighten the mood when you serve a slushie with a cute paper straw, too. 😉

- 2cups sparkling water

Instructions
Combine the ingredients in the order listed in a blender.
Blend until completely smooth.
